Riak Search: Distributed Indexing and Querying*
Basho has just announced Riak Search, an add-on to Basho's internet-scale datastore that makes distributed indexing and querying possible for both Riak EnterpriseDS and Riak Open Source.
Riak Search combines the power of Riak’s distributed, fault-tolerant, and highly scalable architecture with production-ready indexing and querying technology. This blend of database fundamentals and search capabilities makes Riak Search an invaluable resource for any web application requiring search functionality.
Search is a necessity for many of today’s web applications; Basho developed Riak Search in response to this need, using inputs and requirements from several cutting-edge companies. Collecta, the Web's fastest and most powerful streaming, real-time search engine, recently chose Riak Search to power their search and indexing functionality.
A few details on Riak Search:
- Takes full advantage of Riak's distributed, scalable, and fault-tolerant properties
- Scales near linearly; Doubling Riak nodes adds not just fault tolerance but also doubles search capacity
- Implements the Lucene Syntax for query simplification
- Eliminates the need for sharded indexes
- Can be run in multiple data centers
Basho is planning to open source a large portion of Riak Seach soon. If you would like to be part of the limited release before this happens, please contact us so we can discuss your database and search requirements.
*Riak Search is currently in limited beta release.
